For some Wi-Fi projects, Wi-Fi network design is best performed by placing real APs within the building – on tripods – and performing a Wi-Fi survey to evaluate the coverage, data rates and capacity provided by that temporary network.

Many Wi-Fi companies offer what they call an AP-on-a-Stick (APoS) Wi-Fi survey, where they place a single Wi-Fi access point in a tripod and survey the coverage provided by it – to a signal range boundary. The process is then repeated for another AP location.
