Wi-Fi for Customers at
Holiday Parks and
Leisure Venues

LEVER play a central role in Engineering and Support for Wi-Fi based Internet Services across the UK

Project Background

8-year Partnership in Wi-Fi for Holiday Parks and Leisure

LEVER’s customer is a specialist provider of Wi-Fi Internet Services for some of the most desirable Holiday Parks and Leisure venues in the UK.

Customers depend on Wi-Fi increasingly not only for Internet access and Social Media, but also for live and streaming TV content and Remote Working.

Deploying and managing Wireless Internet Services remotely, and at scale in multiple locations, is a challenging operation that demands proficiency in Wireless Network Engineering, Installation, Network Management, Maintenance and end-user Support.

Holiday Parks present further specific challenges that only an experienced and time-served Wireless Engineering company can master.

The Challenge

Wireless Internet Service Provision in Challenging Environments

Deploying and managing Wireless Internet Services remotely, and at scale in multiple locations, is a challenging operation that demands proficiency in Wireless Network Engineering, Installation, Network Management, Maintenance and end-user Support.

Holiday Parks present further challenges that only an experienced and time-served Wireless Engineering company can master.

Why did the customer choose LEVER?

A Track Record in Wi-Fi and Internet Services for Holiday Parks

LEVER was selected for an initial outdoor wireless project following a series of meetings in which LEVER demonstrated in-depth understanding of data network design and wireless engineering principles.

LEVER’s previous experience in the Holiday Parks and Leisure industry included extensive Survey, Auditing and Reporting across 10 major holiday venues operated by one of the biggest names in the UK Holiday sector.

LEVER’s background in telecommunications and a wide range of wireless technologies, along with our friendly, consultative approach, were major factors.

Goals and Objectives

Engineering Outdoor Wireless Networks for Performance and Reliability

The assignment was to survey an existing extensive outdoor wireless network infrastructure at a large holiday park where performance reliability were falling below expectations.

LEVER was tasked with:

  • Liaison with the customer’s Engineering team
  • Surveying the existing outdoor network
  • Assessing the installation practices used
  • Identifying problems with the existing network design and implementation
  • Critiquing the customer’s proposed network upgrades
  • Potentially re-designing the network
  • Defining new standards for Network Engineering

Process and Insight

Combining Resilient network Design with Creativity and Innovation

LEVER worked closely with the customer’s Management team to scope the project, which was to include critical analysis of the customer’s existing practices.

This requires on the one hand incisiveness and diligence, but also sensitivity and the ability to co-operate with existing staff in a sympathetic, understanding manner, acting in a mentoring capacity.

The Solution

A comprehensive project covering all engineering disciplines

Under direction of LEVER’s Technical Director, a team of three LEVER Wireless engineers were assigned specific duties to complete the extensive site audit in the minimum number of days. These included:

  • Liaison and information gathering with Holiday Park staff
  • Inspection of all installed network equipment
  • Link Budget Analysis and Performance Audit for all wireless links
  • Network Capacity Planning for the holiday park of 1500+ dwellings
  • Site-wide resilient wireless network design
  • Comprehensive Summary and Technical reporting to the Management Team

The Outcome

A re-Engineered Wireless Network and the basis for 7-year customer relationship

LEVER’s input and recommendations, both technical and at Management level too, have resulted in a successful on-going relationship of seven years and counting.

Our subsequent work has included:

  • Representation at customer Sales meetings
  • Planning, Survey and Network Design for multiple holiday park venues, UK-wide
  • Review of core network Management and Support systems
  • On-going advice to the Management team

Whilst the customer has a competent and efficient network engineering team, LEVER maintains regular contact with the customer and is called upon to survey and design Wireless solutions for some of the most challenging new Holiday and Leisure Parks.

LEVER has provided high-value input at Technical and Management levels, including invention of the Direct-to-Van (DTV) Internet service, which other Holiday Park Wi-Fi providers have replicated.

LEVER’s work has spanned 7 years and counting, as we look forward to a continued successful relationship in this demanding industry.
